The paintings are constructed as sanctuaries, symbolic acts that preserve and disguise natural elements, commonly known as corn, rice, soy, barley etc, that are hidden beneath the metallic skins of my paintings. When completed they resemble a diverse jumbo Braille awaiting exposure to light and touch. Fixing seeds over rendered portraits suggests notions of regeneration, preservation and disguise for both the seed and character of the celebrated subject.__ VF
